Premium vs Value screens — what's the difference?

Both options work. Different tradeoffs.

Premium screen (recommended) — factory-equivalent OLED (or LCD on older models). Same color reproduction, brightness, and touch responsiveness as the original Apple screen. Indistinguishable in daily use. Premium starts at $79 for older iPhones, $349 for iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Value screen — aftermarket OLED panel that meets daily use standards. Color reproduction and brightness slightly less vivid than Premium, but unnoticeable for typical use (texting, browsing, video calls). Value starts at $69 (older iPhones) and tops out at $219 (iPhone 16 Pro Max).

Both tiers carry the same 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects in the replacement part. Most customers choose Premium for factory-equivalent quality. Value is genuinely the right choice if your iPhone is older, you're planning to trade in within a year, or the budget difference matters most. Either way we install both with the same care and same-day service when parts are in stock.

Why won't Apple service my iPhone XS or iPhone 11 Pro?

Apple classifies these as vintage or obsolete — meaning Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers no longer repair them, regardless of what you're willing to pay. When should I choose Value tier versus Premium tier?

Choose Premium for factory-equivalent quality and the closest match to your original screen. Choose Value if your iPhone is older (iPhone 11 and below), you plan to trade in within 12 months, or the budget difference matters most. Both tiers carry the same 1-year warranty. Are Mobile Tech Lab repairs warrantied?

Yes. Every repair carries a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects in the replacement part, regardless of tier. Battery replacements carry 3 months. Warranty covers defects in the replacement part — it does not cover physical damage, liquid damage, or component failures unrelated to our repair work.

Can you repair water-damaged iPhones?

We start with a $49 device-opening diagnostic — fully credited toward your repair if you proceed. Data recovery attempts start at $99.99. Important: outcomes cannot be guaranteed, and no warranty applies to liquid-damaged devices on any component, regardless of whether future failure relates to our work. For severely water-damaged devices we often recommend backup-and-replace over repair.

Do you repair older iPhones like iPhone 8, 7, or SE?

Yes — we repair every iPhone from iPhone 4 onward where part availability allows. Apple has discontinued service for iPhone 8 / 8 Plus / X / XS / XS Max / 11 Pro / SE 1st gen — we still do all of them. iPhone 7 and earlier are also serviceable with quality aftermarket parts.

Is it cheaper to repair or replace my iPhone?

Almost always cheaper to repair. A new iPhone 16 Pro Max is $1,799; we replace its screen for $349 Premium or $219 Value. Even on an iPhone 13 a Premium screen ($199) costs less than a single month of a financed upgrade. Do you offer same-day iPhone screen repair?

Yes — same-day service on most screen repairs when parts are in stock. Newer Pro Max models occasionally need to be ordered (1–3 business days). When you submit your quote we tell you upfront whether your model is in stock.

Are the parts genuine Apple or equivalent quality?

Premium tier screens are factory-equivalent OLED panels — same color reproduction, brightness, and touch response as Apple's original part, indistinguishable in daily use. Value tier screens are aftermarket OLEDs that meet daily-use standards but are slightly less vivid. Batteries are upgraded to genuine Apple for an additional $100. Back glass is quality aftermarket. Can I walk in or do I need to book ahead?

Walk-ins welcome at both St. Vital and Thompson during open hours. Booking ahead via our quote form is faster — we have the part pulled and ready when you arrive. Booking also locks in your price.
