Premium vs Value MacBook parts — what's the difference?
Both options work. Different tradeoffs.
Premium tier (recommended) — factory-equivalent OLED / LCD panels. Same colour reproduction, brightness, and touch response as the original MacBook part. Indistinguishable in daily use.
Value tier (where available) — aftermarket OLED / LCD panel offered when supply permits. Colour reproduction and brightness slightly less vivid than Premium, but generally unnoticeable for typical use.
Both tiers carry the same 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects in the replacement part. Most customers choose Premium for factory-equivalent quality. Value is genuinely the right choice if your device is older, you plan to trade in within a year, or budget matters most. Both install with the same care.

Genuine vs aftermarket MacBook screen — what's the visible difference?
Identical panel quality — same resolution, brightness, colour reproduction. The only difference visible is no Apple logo on the lid (aftermarket screens come without the lit Apple). Aftermarket screens save approximately $150 per repair. We disclose which tier you're getting on every quote.
Can you replace just the keyboard, or is it a top-case repair?
On most modern MacBooks (M1 onward) the keyboard is integrated into the top case — keyboard repair means replacing the entire top case assembly (keyboard + trackpad + speakers + battery). Quote-based.

When should I choose Value tier versus Premium tier for MacBook?
Choose Premium for factory-equivalent quality and the closest match to your original part. Choose Value if your device is older, you plan to trade in within 12 months, or the budget difference matters most. Both tiers carry the same 1-year warranty. About 70% of customers choose Premium; 30% choose Value where it's available.
Are Mobile Tech Lab MacBook repairs warrantied?
Yes — every repair carries a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects in the replacement part, regardless of tier. Battery replacements carry 3 months. Warranty covers defects in the replacement part — it does not cover physical damage, liquid damage, or component failures unrelated to our repair work.
Can you repair water-damaged MacBook devices?
We start with a $49 device-opening diagnostic — fully credited toward your repair if you proceed. Data recovery attempts start at $99.99. Important: outcomes cannot be guaranteed, and no warranty applies to liquid-damaged devices on any component. For severely water-damaged devices we often recommend backup-and-replace.
How does your quote and diagnostic process work?
(1) Submit a short quote form — under 60 seconds. (2) We send an estimate in 1–2 business hours. (3) Drop off at St. Vital / Thompson, or ship in. (4) We inspect physically and confirm the final price before any work begins. (5) Same-day repair on in-stock parts. If you decline after inspection, you pay only the $49 diagnostic fee.

Walk-ins welcome at both St. Vital and Thompson during open hours. Booking via our quote form is faster — we have the part pulled and ready when you arrive, and it locks in your price.
