Premium vs Value Nintendo Switch parts — what's the difference?

Both options work. Different tradeoffs.

Premium tier (recommended) — factory-equivalent OLED / LCD panels. Same colour reproduction, brightness, and touch response as the original Nintendo Switch part. Indistinguishable in daily use.

Value tier (where available) — aftermarket OLED / LCD panel offered when supply permits. Colour reproduction and brightness slightly less vivid than Premium, but generally unnoticeable for typical use.

Both tiers carry the same 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects in the replacement part. Most customers choose Premium for factory-equivalent quality. Value is genuinely the right choice if your device is older, you plan to trade in within a year, or budget matters most. Both install with the same care.

Worried about repair cost? You have options.

Price match. Found a lower price at another Winnipeg repair shop? We'll match it.

Trade-in toward your repair. Trade in phones, tablets, consoles, or laptops — even broken ones — to reduce today's repair cost. Most customers cut their final cost by $50 to $200 with a trade-in.

No-surprise diagnostic. If our final price isn't right for you after physical inspection, you only pay the $49 diagnostic fee. No pressure to proceed.

Frequently asked questions

My Joy-Con drifts — character moves on its own. Is that fixable?

Yes — Joy-Con drift is THE classic Switch repair. The analog stick wears out from contact with carbon brushes inside; we replace the stick assembly with a new one ($39 per stick, same-day). After-market hall-effect upgrades available for an additional fee (no future drift).

Switch won't charge — port or board issue?

Usually the USB-C port. The Switch port is mounted directly to the mainboard and is vulnerable to drops + thermal stress. Port replacement $89, same-day when in stock.

Switch overheating during gameplay?

Often dust accumulation + dried thermal paste. We clean the fan, replace thermal paste, and do a stress-test verification. $89+, quote depends on whether the fan needs replacement.

When should I choose Value tier versus Premium tier for Nintendo Switch?

Choose Premium for factory-equivalent quality and the closest match to your original part. Choose Value if your device is older, you plan to trade in within 12 months, or the budget difference matters most. Both tiers carry the same 1-year warranty. About 70% of customers choose Premium; 30% choose Value where it's available.

Are Mobile Tech Lab Nintendo Switch repairs warrantied?

Yes — every repair carries a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects in the replacement part, regardless of tier. Battery replacements carry 3 months. Warranty covers defects in the replacement part — it does not cover physical damage, liquid damage, or component failures unrelated to our repair work.

Can you repair water-damaged Nintendo Switch devices?

We start with a $49 device-opening diagnostic — fully credited toward your repair if you proceed. Data recovery attempts start at $99.99. Important: outcomes cannot be guaranteed, and no warranty applies to liquid-damaged devices on any component. For severely water-damaged devices we often recommend backup-and-replace.

How does your quote and diagnostic process work?

(1) Submit a short quote form — under 60 seconds. (2) We send an estimate in 1–2 business hours. (3) Drop off at St. Vital / Thompson, or ship in. (4) We inspect physically and confirm the final price before any work begins. (5) Same-day repair on in-stock parts. If you decline after inspection, you pay only the $49 diagnostic fee.

Can I walk in or do I need to book ahead?

Walk-ins welcome at both St. Vital and Thompson during open hours. Booking via our quote form is faster — we have the part pulled and ready when you arrive, and it locks in your price.

Do you offer price match?

Yes — we match verified written quotes from local Winnipeg / Manitoba repair shops for the same repair, same model, same part quality tier. Subject to verification (we may call to confirm).
